In The Garden
March 20, 2008 (The first day of Spring!)- We've continued to be plagued by see-saw temperatures...mid 70's one day, low 50's the next. But thankfully we're getting more of the rain that we so desperately needed this past fall/winter! And the spring blooms are showing their thanks! Yesterday was a very warm and windy day, but a great day to be on one of our walking guided tours of our farm and home! If you'd like to go on one, check the dates listed under OnSite Events and give us a call to reserve your spot!
Obviously, one month has made a world of difference! If the daffodils in our trial fields aren't in peak bloom, then they will be VERY soon! This is a view across the fields towards our pond and flowering trees. We grow and trial everything we sell. If the blooms grow thin and sparse over time (like up close) we don't offer them in the future. We only offer the strong growers and repeat bloomers (like the ones in the middle) so you have the best of the best! | This shot is from our barn towards Brent and Becky's home, across what is Becky's teaching garden. Here, Brent and Becky have combined different themes to show you how to work different color schemes, textures and bloom times for the most impact! And on this day, the color was so alive! Up close, you can see white Leucojum with mainly white daffodils. And as you go through, yellows, oranges, pink hyacinths and more stimulate your eyes with color and tickle your nostrils with fragrance! | | From within Becky's teaching garden, you can enjoy a view across the trial field towards the water, "Back Creek" off of the North River. On this day, the ospreys were all around, battling the high winds while hunting for fresh fish. We are so fortunate to live where we live and do what we do. We'd love to take you on a tour and show you around sometime! Call and make your reservation while spaces are still available! | Here, at Brent and Becky's home, close to "Back Creek", tour guide Susan Appel (and "Tux" the cat) talks to the group about different planting techniques, ways to care for bulbs and get the highest yield, and identify that bloom that REALLY knocked your socks off! Susan has been with us for a long time, she competes in flower shows with our bulbs and is a great guide! Do I need to say it again? Ok, one more time...come join us! |
