Summer 2010 > Bulbs > Genus List > Hippeastrum > Amaryllidaceae[Printer Friendly Version]

large, bright 'pinkish/orangish red' flowers that will be just perfect for many containers or any needed bright spot in the sunny garden.

We normally see these plants indoors, growing very tall when forced during the winter. We have planted them in our garden and have found them to be reliable, marvelous, eye-catching flowers. However, when grown outdoors in the summer with more intense light and longer daylight hours, they bloom on much shorter stems; blooms early-mid summer; 8"-18"; whz 7-10; also in zone 6 in sheltered locations, when planted deep and mulched well. (Standard size flower unless otherwise noted)
